Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late Run Secures Victory for Women's Basketball over Santa Clara

STOCKTON, Calif. – After Santa Clara tied the ballgame with 4:21 left, the Pacific women's basketball program closed the game on a 14-3 run in a 75-64 win Thursday night from the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Keying the run was the dual play of sophomore Marina Radocaj and senior Anaya James who combined to score seven of the final 14 points including the final five free throws that iced the contest.
The play of Radocaj was particularly clutch as the forward's 19-points (7-12 FG, 5-6 FT) nearly doubled her previous career high. Over the past five contests, she has greatly expanded her role in the offense averaging 9.6 points per game.

James' play was extremely efficient, making six field goals and six free throws to get to her 19 points on just 17 total shots (6-9 FG, 6-8 FT). The senior guard has been equally lethal offensively over the last five contests as well, averaging 17 points per game and back-to-back 19-point outings.

Her efficient night underpinned a Pacific (7-9, 3-3 WCC) offense that shot 51.9% (28-54 FG) as a team on the night and marked the first time the team has shot over 50% against a division one opponent since the regular season finale last season against Santa Clara (8-9, 2-5 WCC).

A major factor for the efficient offense was the lack of turnovers as Pacific committed a season low 12 all game.

And the Tiger defense was once again able to hold the opposing offense to under 50% shooting (25-54 FG). With those increased looks on the glass, senior Elizabeth Elliott was able to pull down ten boards, which coupled with her 14 points on the offensive end, gave the senior her second consecutive double double. A dual threat her entire career, Elliott has once before tallied a double double in consecutive contests (December 1 and 2, 2023 versus Arizona State and Temple).

Playing the role of distributor in the contest, graduate Liz Smith racked up six assists to move the team to 5-0 when she records more than five dimes. Smith also scored 11 points on the night.

Pacific is back in action Saturday at Saint Mary's looking to avenge a buzzer beater loss to the Gaels earlier this season. Tipoff from the UCU Pavilion is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
