Camacho, Petersen Homer in Series Finale at Saint Mary’s

MORAGA, Calif. – Despite a pair of home runs on the day, the Pacific baseball team fell to Saint Mary's, 22-7, on Sunday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field.

The Tigers (10-41, 4-17 WCC) got some power at the plate from freshman Gabe Camacho and sophomore Kaden Petersen, but the Gaels (33-16, 16-5) fueled by their Senior Day festivities, poured on the offense with 18 hits and 22 runs in the contest.

Camacho hit his team-leading 10th home run of the season, a three-run shot down the right field line in the top of the seventh inning. Camacho becomes the first Tiger to reach double-digit home runs since Thomas Gavello during the 2022 season. Ten home runs are the most home runs by a freshman since James Free II's 14-home run campaign during his first season in 2017.

Petersen crushed his fourth roundtripper of the year, giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Petersen finished the afternoon with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with two runs and two RBIs. Sophomore Jake Tandy continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-for-5 with three singles and a run scored. Sophomore Rylan Evans reached base safely three times, including a pair of singles to left field to support Pacific's offense.

Redshirt junior Josh Souza made the start on the mound for the Tigers, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing seven runs on six hits with a strikeout.

Saint Mary's scored in every frame but the bottom of the sixth inning. The Gaels scored three in the bottom of the first inning and six in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back, eventually holding on to a 22-7 victory.

The Tigers return to action at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Nevada.
