RENO, Nev. – The Pacific baseball team put together a spirited effort with a late rally, but ultimately fell to Nevada, 9-8, in walk-off fashion on a warm Tuesday night at Don Weir Field.
Sophomore
Rylan Evans, senior
Jacob Weiss, and freshman
JT Shank each hit home runs for the Tigers (10-42) as part of the team's late offensive outburst, but a walk-off single lifted the Wolf Pack (23-25) to victory in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Evans, a native of the Silver State, launched his third home run of the season.
Weiss collected his fourth roundtripper of the season, tying him with sophomores
Kaden Petersen and
Jake Tandy for the second-most homers on the team. Freshman
JT Shank hit his first collegiate home run as part of a four-run ninth inning rally that tied the game up. Shank reached base safely in all of his trips to the plate, going 2-for-2 with three walks and a pair of RBIs.
Freshman
Regan Carter made his third start of the season on the mound, throwing 2.0 innings and allowing three runs on four hits while striking out one. Sophomore
Jackson Lux had a productive performance on the bump, pitching 3.0 innings and striking out six batters.
The Wolf Pack got off to a hot start, scoring three runs on four hits in the top of the second inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Tigers responded immediately with a two-run double by Petersen that cut the deficit to 3-2.
After two more runs for Nevada in the bottom of the third, Weiss hit a solo shot to left field that made the score, 5-3, in favor of the home team. The Wolf Pack extended their lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth and tacked on one more run on a home run in the bottom of the seventh, presenting an 8-3 score with two innings to go.
The Tigers would not go away quietly. Evans led off the top of the seventh inning with a home run. Pacific would load the bases for the team's home run leader in freshman
Gabe Camacho, but he flew out to left field to maintain the score of 8-4.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Tigers were down to their final out, however they rallied for four runs, which featured a two-run home run by Shank and a two-run double by sophomore
Tony Otis that tied the game up at 8-8.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Nevada walked-off Pacific with a single to right field to secure the 9-8 victory.
The Tigers return to action at 6 p.m. on Thursday for the final home series of the season against Santa Clara.
