Tigers Drop High-Scoring Series Finale to Toreros

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team put together a spirited effort at the plate, but ultimately fell to San Diego in the series finale, 14-6, on Saturday afternoon at Klein Family Field.

The Tigers (5-22, 1-5 WCC) found their groove offensively, yet the Toreros (16-10, 4-2 WCC) muscled their way to a series-sweeping victory thanks to a late surge of offense.

Sophomore Jack Metcho compiled a three-hit day, hitting a pair of singles and a triple while scoring two runs. Sophomore Jake Tandy stayed hot at the plate, smashing a two-RBI double early in the contest to spark the Pacific bats.

Junior Jakob Guardado made his seventh start of the season, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing seven runs on ten hits with three strikeouts.

San Diego struck first in the top of the first on an RBI single and added another run on an RBI single in the top of the second to hold a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers responded in the bottom of the third as Tandy roped a double down the left field line, leveling the game up at 2-2.

A two-run double in the top of the fifth put the Toreros in front, 5-3. In the bottom of that frame, Metcho hit his fourth triple of the season and eventually scored on a wild pitch, making the score, 5-4, in favor of San Diego.

The Toreros went through the lineup in the top of the sixth inning, scoring eight runs to command a 12-3 lead.

The Tigers tried to mount a comeback, posting a three-run bottom of the eighth frame to cut into the deficit. Pacific's rally ultimately came up short and resulted in a 14-6 final score.

The Tigers return to action at 6:05 pm on Tuesday with a midweek matchup at California.
