STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team opened its home conference slate, falling to San Diego, 9-4, on Thursday night at Klein Family Field.
Sophomore
Jack Metcho was a spark on offense for the Tigers (5-20, 1-3 WCC), crushing a three-run jack for his second home run of the season.
The Toreros (14-10, 2-2 WCC) capitalized with late offense while stringing together a solid pitching performance to put away the Tigers in the series opener.
Junior
Ethan Shaver made his seventh start of the season, going 6.0 innings and allowing six earned runs on nine hits while striking out four batters.
San Diego opened the scoring in the top of the second, hitting a three-run homer to take an early 3-0 lead.
Pacific responded immediately as Metcho capped a four-run bottom of the second frame to give the home team a 4-3 advantage.
The pitchers settled in until the top of the sixth inning when the Toreros retook the lead, 5-4, on a two-RBI double to center field. San Diego added one more in the inning to make the score, 6-4.
The Toreros hit a pair of home runs in the top of the seventh inning and brought home one more runner in the top of the eighth inning, resulting in the game's final score, 9-4.
The Tigers return to action at 3 pm tomorrow for game two of the three-game series against the Toreros.
