MALIBU, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team fell in the finale of its West Coast Conference opening series to Pepperdine, 11-4, on Sunday afternoon at Eddy D. Field.
The Tigers (5-18, 1-2 WCC) mustered four runs on six hits while the Waves (7-17, 2-1 WCC) capitalized on early offense to take a hold of the first series of conference play.
Freshman
Gabe Camacho went 1-for-4 on the day with his team-leading fourth home run of the season. Sophomore
Tony Otis collected his first RBI of the year with a double to left field.
Junior
Jakob Guardado made his sixth start of the season, going 3.0 innings and allowing eight runs (two earned) on six hits. Redshirt sophomore
Austin McKinney turned in his longest relief outing of the season, pitching four scoreless innings and striking out four Waves hitters.
Pepperdine got things started with the game's opening two runs in the bottom of the second inning with the utilization of some small ball.
The Tigers responded in the top of the third with a pair of RBI singles by sophomore
Rylan Evans and sophomore
Kaden Petersen, tying the game up at 2-2.
Powered by a couple home runs in the frame, the Waves scored six runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-2 lead.
Pacific chipped away at the Waves lead as Otis slashed an RBI double to deep left center that brought home sophomore
Andrew Sloan in the top of the fourth.
After the relief pitchers settled in, Camacho crushed a long home run in the top of the eighth inning to continue his hot week at the plate.
The Waves would score three more in the bottom of the eighth to eventually seal the deal with a 11-4 final score.
The Tigers return to action at 5 pm on Tuesday as they host Nevada at Klein Family Field.
