No. 17 Pacific Finishes Day Two of Pomona-Pitzer Convergence with Split

CLAREMONT, Calif. – No. 17 Pacific women's water polo wrapped up the Pomona-Pitzer Convergence with another split on Saturday at Haldeman Pool.
 
The Tigers (10-6, 0-1 GCC) opened the day with their 10th win of the season after a 19-6 victory over DIII No. 6 La Verne (0-6, 0-0 SCIAC). Pacific later came up short against No. 4 USC (12-3, 0-0 MPSF) 13-8.
 
Game 1: No. 17 Pacific 19, DIII No. 6 La Verne 6
Pacific had a 6-0 lead during the first period. The Tigers outscored the Leopards 5-2 in each of the next two periods and never looked back.
 
Pacific took 40 shots (.475) while La Verne had 20 (.273).
 
Junior Natalie Johnston led the way with a season-high four goals. Sophomore Dora Alaksza and freshman Anna Crum had two apiece. Senior goalkeeper Megan Acosta picked up her second win in net this season while tallying a season-high six saves.
 
Game 2: No. 4 USC 13, No. 17 Pacific 8
Both teams traded goals in the first few minutes of the game. USC notched back-to-back goals to take the 5-3 lead at the end of the first period.
 
The Tigers were outscored 4-1 in the second and 3-1 in the third by the Trojans. Alaksza and junior Hila Futorian combined for Pacific's three goals in the fourth period, but it was not enough.
 
The Tigers registered 24 shots (.333) while the Trojans had 28 (.464).
 
Alaksza led Pacific with five goals while Futorian finished with two. Freshman goalkeeper Maja Lizy Dulic had another double-digit performance in the saves column with 10.
 
Up next, the Tigers head to Berkeley to take on No. 4 California at 1 p.m. on Friday.
