LA JOLLA, Calif.- The Pacific men's tennis team captured its fifth win in a row and second neutral site match win this season after defeating Ball State 6-1.
The Tigers improve to 6-1 on the season and are off to one of their best starts since 2013, when they opened 5-2 on the year. Their five match winning streak is tied with a similar feat from that same season. Today's win puts them in second place in the current WCC standings.
Pacific cruised to two doubles match wins to clinch the doubles point early on Thursday morning. Junior
Justas Trainauskas and senior
Peter Alam struck first on court one with a 6-2 decision over the Cardinals, while senior
Ran Amar and freshman
Christof Schaertlin Coffey put the Tigers up 1-0 after defeating Ball State 6-4 on court three.
Sophomore
Tiago Silva cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Eli Herran, while fellow sophomore
Terence Das maintained his unbeaten streak after defeating Vince Orlando 6-1, 6-1. Senior
Andre Rodeia clinched the match for Pacific from court six after swiftly handling Broc Fletcher 6-2, 6-2.
The Tigers played through the match, with Amar moving to 4-1 in his singles matches after beating Mason Tran 6-2, 6-3. Trainauskas scored the final point for the Tigers from court one after a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Nathaniel Webster.
Pacific remains in La Jolla for the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship, which will be held at the La Jolla Tennis Club. The tournament begins Friday, March 1 and lasts through Sunday, March 3.
