Elliott Posts Fifth 20+ Point Performance at Loyola Marymount

LOS ANGELES – Junior Elizabeth Elliott recorded her fifth 20+ point performance of the season with 24 in Pacific women's basketball's 80-71 loss at Loyola Marymount on Saturday at Gersten Pavilion.
 
Elliott shot 9-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. The Inglewood, Calif native was one rebound shy from another double double as she grabbed a game-high nine boards. Graduate student Cecilia Holmberg notched 16 points while senior Kadie Deaton and junior Anaya James had 10 apiece. Senior Liz Smith registered three assists to surpass 200 dishouts in her career.
 
Both teams traded baskets at the beginning of the contest. A bucket in the paint from Holmberg and two free throws from Elliott put Pacific (15-12, 7-7 WCC) up 7-5 at the seven minute mark. Loyola Marymount (10-16, 5-9 WCC) erased it with a 14-0 run, 19-9. Elliott and Smith each contributed a basket and free throw that brought the Tigers within six at the end of the first.
 
The woes continued for Pacific in the first half. The Tigers committed 12 turnovers that turned into 11 points for the Lions. Loyola Marymount shot 9-of-19 from the three-point line while Pacific was held to 1-of-9 from behind the arc. The halftime score was 40-27 in favor of the Lions.
 
Pacific rallied in the fourth quarter shooting 9-of-20 from the field and 7-of-9 at the free throw line. The Tigers also had a 27-18 advantage in points. Deaton drained a three at the 3:34 mark that ignited an 11-2 run that brought Pacific within five. But it was not enough for the comeback as Loyola Marymount tallied five more points to bring the game to its final score.
 
Overall, the Tigers shot 25-of-61 (.410) from the field, 4-of-21 (.190) at the three-point line and 17-of-22 (.773) from the free throw line. The Lions were 28-of-63 (.444), 12-of-29 (.414) from behind the arc and 12-of-16 at the charity stripe (.750).
 
Pacific outscored Loyola Marymount 38-28 in the paint and 16 points off 14 offensive rebounds. The Lions scored 17 of their points off 16 Tiger turnovers.
 
Up next, Pacific returns to the Spanos Center for its final two regular season games beginning with San Diego for Pink Night at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
