Pacific’s Late Rally Falls Short in 9-7 Loss to Bison

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team nearly completed a comeback for a second straight day, falling to North Dakota State, 9-7, Saturday afternoon at Klein Family Field.

The Tigers drop to 2-4 on the season while the Bison (1-5) earn their first win of the 2024 campaign.

Pacific took a single game-high 11 walks, including a career-high four walks for senior Chase Graves. The Tigers had plenty of opportunities to cash in runs throughout the contest, but ultimately came up just short during their ninth-inning rally.

Redshirt junior Josh Souza made his second start of the season, going 3.0 innings and allowing four runs (two unearned) on seven hits while striking out two Bison batters.

The Bison scored in each of the first four innings, jumping out in front early 7-2 after four innings.

A pair of RBI doubles in the top of the sixth inning tacked on two more runs for NDSU, extending its lead to 9-2.

The Tigers loaded the bases courtesy of three walks in the bottom of the eighth inning before freshman Gabe Camacho knocked in two Tigers on a fielder's choice, cutting NDSU's lead to 9-4.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Pacific strung together four hits including two doubles down the left field to ultimately trim the Bison's edge to a two-run cushion. Graves reached on a fielding error by the Bison second baseman, sending the tying run to first base. Camacho grounded out to first base to end the ball game with a 9-7 score.

Graves stole a base back in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Tigers a 5-for-5 mark in successful stolen base attempts.

The series finale between Pacific and NDSU wraps up at 1 pm tomorrow at Klein Family Field.
