Petersen Blasts First Home Run in Series Finale

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team put together a spirited effort in the series finale, but ultimately dropped a 6-4 decision to North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon at Klein Family Field.

The Tigers completed their seven-game homestand, owning a 2-5 record across the opening two weeks of the season. The Bison earn their first series win of the season and improve to 2-5.

Sophomore Kaden Petersen went 2-for-5 at the plate this afternoon, launching his first home run of the season. Sophomore Jack Metcho reached safely in all four trips to the batter's box, hitting three singles, walking once and scoring a run.

Starting for the Tigers, junior Jakob Guardado threw four scoreless innings before allowing four runs in the top of the fifth inning, including surrendering back-to-back home runs in the frame. Guardado finished the day with 5.0 innings pitched, seven hits, four earned runs and two strikeouts.

The Tigers scored the game's opening run in the bottom of the fourth inning when freshman JT Shank reached on an error, scoring Petersen from third base.

The Bison responded in the top of the fifth inning with four runs, including a pair of home runs hit by James Dunlap and Colten Becker, giving NDSU a 4-1 lead.

Pacific chipped away at the Bison pitching, scoring one in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to eventually level the score up at 4-4.

With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning, NDSU retook the lead with a two-run single to go up, 6-4.

The Tigers brought the tying run up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Petersen grounded out to end the contest.

Metcho stole a base in the fifth inning, marking a sixth successful stolen base in six tries this season for Pacific.

The Tigers return to action at 2 pm on Tuesday for their first road game of the season at UC Davis.
