SAN DIEGO, Calif.- Pacific men's tennis team swiftly defeated UC San Diego 5-2 on the road to capture its third win of the season.
"Another fantastic team effort," head coach
Robin Goodman shared after the match, "It's been a couple of weeks since our last match, so I'm particularly pleased with the way our guys fought today. Playing on the road is always challenging and our team handled that well. It is very important that we turn our attention to achieving excellent practices this week before heading to Cal Poly."
The Tigers opened the day up 1-0 after taking the doubles point with some shake ups in their lineups. Sophomores
Tiago Silva and
Terence Das cruised to the 6-4 decision over the Tritons on court one, but the Tritons kept the doubles matches close on two and three.
Senior
Ran Amar and freshman
Christof Schaertlin Coffey got the edge for the Tigers as they clinched the point after defeating UC San Diego 7-6 (1).
Amar kickstarted the singles matches with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Pelayo Rodriquez to put Pacific up 2-0. Das followed suit with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Diogo Tinoco. The Tritons struck back to make it 3-1, but senior
Peter Alam clinched the match 4-1 after handling Phillip Lan 6-4, 6-2.
Pacific played through the match on the remaining two courts. Schaertlin Coffey captured his first singles victory of his collegiate career in three sets. He downed Charles Qian 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 to propel the Tigers to their 5-2 win.
