Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Tigers Win Overtime Thriller over Oregon State to Begin WCC Play

STOCKTON, Calif. – Senior Anaya James drilled a three-pointer with five seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime and the Pacific women's basketball program clamped down defensively on Oregon State to grind out a 66-63 home win Thursday at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

James' game-tying three-pointer capped a 19-12 Pacific run to end regulation after finding itself down 45-38 with 8:38 remaining in the game. From that point, the Tigers drilled five of their nine total three-pointers including three of James' new career-high six threes and both of sophomore Nyah Lowery's two.

With a game-leading 22 points, the senior guard is now averaging 26.5 points per game in her career against Oregon State (scored a career-high 31 in Corvallis, Oregon in 2021). It was Pacific's first win over the Beavers in program history.

Often finding an open James was graduate Liz Smith, who put together an 11-point, 10-assist night to notch her first career double-double. Smith has now twice broken her career-high in assists this season, topping the eight she dished out on opening day against Stanislaus State.

The graduate is also just the second player in the WCC to pass for 10 or more assists in a game this season. And with four steals, Smith overtook James for the conference lead in steals this season.

Senior Elizabeth Elliott continues to close in on 600 career rebounds, pulling down a team best seven tonight – she now sits at 572 all time and just 84 rebounds away from cracking Pacific's all-time top-10.

As a team, Pacific forced Oregon State into 29 turnovers and matching the team's season best against a division one opponent. In nine game this season, Pacific has forced five of its opponents into 20-plus turnovers, including three of the last four, and thrice into 25-plus turnovers.

Alongside Smith, junior Lauren Glazier was active in forcing steals as she too stole four balls and set her own new career-high in the category. It was also the first time Glazier has recorded multiple steals in a contest in her career.

Offensively, the Tiger's 14 turnovers committed matches their season low (last done versus Stanislaus State).

The team will remain at home for its next contest, taking on another former Pac-12 school, this time in the form of the California Golden Bears on Saturday, December 7. Tipoff from the Alex G. Spanos Center is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
