Women’s Basketball Comes Up Just Short against Cal

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball program was unrelenting for 40 minutes but was unable to overcome Cal in a 74-66 decision Saturday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Pacific (5-5) held an early lead as large as four thanks to the scoring prowess of graduate Liz Smith. She connected on back-to-back three-pointers in the first quarter to put Pacific ahead. Smith ended her night leading the Tigers in scoring with 21 points on 8-for-16 shooting and 3-for-7 from beyond the arc.

However, after Pacific went up 21-17 the Golden Bears (9-1) embarked on a 19-7 run that spanned until halftime. The Tigers clawed their way back to a 45-45 tie in the third quarter but immediately gave up a 9-0 run that permanently surrendered the lead. Pacific would twice get as close as six in the final 90 seconds but could not make enough stops to pull out the contest.

Coming up next for Pacific is its last non-conference game of the season, traveling to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Dec. 15. The Tigers have won their past three meetings with the Gauchos and the last four on the road.

NOTES
- Senior Elizabeth Elliott notched her first double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds) since the opening round of the 2024 West Coast Conference Tournament. The double-double is the 11th of her career. Elliott is also just eight rebounds away from a career 600, which would make her the 15th Tiger in program history to reach this milestone. With 11 more rebounds, she will pass Tine Freil for 14th most in Pacific history.

- Junior Lauren Glazier tallied three steals, marking the first time in her career she has recorded multiple steals in consecutive contests.

- Pacific's defense held California to a season low .379 field goal percentage.

- With seven assists in the contest, senior Anaya James is 13 away from becoming the second Tiger ever to reach the 500-assist milestone.
