Alexa Player of the Year 2024

Edwards Wins WCC Player of the Year Honor

12/2/2024 10:53:00 AM

STOCKTON, Calif. – As recognition for her record-breaking season, Pacific volleyball graduate Alexa Edwards was named the 2024 West Coast Conference Player of the Year.

Edwards was one of four Tigers honored by the league on the All-Conference Teams. Edwards earned All-Conference First-Team accolades, while Emily Van Groningen, Jenna Heller and Jayhlin Swain were tabbed as Honorable Mentions.

With 1,917 career kills, Edwards took the crown for the most career kills in the rally scoring era in both Pacific and WCC history. She has the 12th most career kills of any active player in the NCAA.

Edwards becomes the first Pacific student-athlete to earn Player of the Year honors in the program's WCC tenure and the first to earn a Conference Player of the Year honor since Jennifer Joines won Big West Player of the Year in 2003. Edwards was the fourth player in program history to outright win a conference Player of the Year/MVP award and the sixth total.

The graduate swung for 540 kills in the regular season, which tied for 10th in WCC rally scoring history and marked the first time a player has cracked that list since 2017. Her 540 kills rank fifth in the nation and is more than 100 more than the next closest WCC player.

Earlier this season, Edwards became just the 10th Tiger in program history to tally 500 or more kills in a single season and currently ranks eighth all time in single season kills with the ability to move up to fourth in her next match with just 15 more kills.

Edwards is now a three-time All-WCC selection and a back-to-back First-Team honoree. Heller and Van Groningen earned their second straight All-Conference nods, while it was a first for Swain.

The Tigers continue their season Friday when they enter postseason play in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. Pacific will face off with Weber State at 11 a.m. in Tucson, Arizona, hosted by the University of Arizona.
