SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific women's soccer program dropped a 2-0 decision at Gonzaga Wednesday at Luger Field.
The Tigers (2-16-1, 0-9 WCC) came within striking distance in the second half, but the Bulldogs (9-7-2, 5-3-1 WCC) ultimately secured the result.
"Our group had a solid first half and for long stretches, we were the superior team on and off the ball," co-head coach
J.J. Wozniak said. "Unfortunately, we didn't defend one counter moment well enough and were down a goal at half. A determined start to the second half led to a big moment that we didn't finish and from there, we gradually lost our rhythm and flow. We will get the group recovered and ready for Saturday to compete for the full 90 minutes."
Graduate student
Taylor Curtis recorded two of Pacific's five shot attempts on the night with one of those coming on goal. Freshman
Brianna Norman and sophomore
Kaya Rosa each also registered a shot on goal in the effort offensively.
Redshirt freshman
Hannah McFarlane kept the Tigers within reach throughout the match. The native of Overland Park, Kansas tied her career-high in saves with eight. McFarlane denied some opportunities by the Bulldogs early in the second half that gave the Tigers a fighting chance.
Along with McFarlane, sophomore
Rina Ogimoto competed the full 90 minutes from the start to the final whistle. Wednesday's contest was the first time Ogimoto played the full length of the match as a Tiger this season.
Gonzaga scored once in each half as Marissa Garcia collected both goals in the 14th and 72nd minutes of the match. Despite some late pressure by the Tigers' offense, the Bulldogs would eventually go on to earn the 2-0 result.
Pacific wraps up the regular season Saturday, facing Washington State for the first time on the pitch as a member of the West Coast Conference at Lower Soccer Field. Kick-off is set for 4 pm.
