Edwards Breaks School & WCC Kills Records in 3-2 Senior Day Comeback Win

STOCKTON, Calif. – A celebratory day at the Alex G. Spanos Center saw the Pacific volleyball program erase a two-set deficit to defeat Portland 3-2 (28-30, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-9) on Senior Day Saturday in the regular season finale.

With 23 kills in the match for the Tigers (18-12, 8-10 WCC), graduate Alexa Edwards became the all-time kills leader at both the Pacific and in the West Coast Conference in the rally scoring era with 1,902. She entered the match needing just eight to break the league's record.

It headlined a successful senior day as Pacific honored its seven seniors and graduates after the match. All seven contributed in the winning effort.

Fellow graduate Darina Kumanova was a valuable addition to the offensive rhythm as she added 13 kills. Over her past five matches, the graduate has thrice reached double digits and is averaging 10.8 kills per match. Both graduates also recorded double doubles with 16 digs for Edwards and 10 for Kumanova.

Graduate Margherita Giani notched 10-plus kills for the second time this season for the Tigers. In the three matches this season Giani eclipsed eight kills, Pacific won all three.

Often assisting the graduates was senior Jenna Heller, who's 47 assists helped her to eclipse 1,000 assists on the season for the second time in her career. At 3,640 assists in her career, she places sixth all-time in the Pacific record book.

Senior Megan Nishimura made her biggest contributions from the service line, serving up a match-high three aces. She also added 16 digs defensively to tie Edwards for the team-lead.

Playing in all five sets for the fifth time this season, senior Abby Miller swung for seven kills on 23 total attacks, blocked a shot and dug six balls to do her part.

Senior Sam Sublett made her third appearance of the season and made the most of the opportunity, serving up her second ace of the season.

As a team, Pacific topped the Pilots (12-16, 5-13 WCC) in points scored, kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs.

The Tigers were 9-2 in five set matches this season.
