NEW ORLEANS – Pacific women's basketball is taking part in a two-day tournament, facing the Lamar Cardinals on Friday, and then the Houston Cougars on Saturday. Both matches have a scheduled tip for 1:30 p.m. at the Alario Center.
The trip is the last leg of a two-week road trip that saw the Tigers (3-3) split games against Columbia and Yale in the northeast last week.
The last time Pacific saw Lamar (1-2), assistant coach
Valerie Higgins put up 15 points and 6 boards. This time the offense is running through senior and graduate guards
Anaya James and
Liz Smith. The former has been a standout facilitator and defensive disruptor as one of three players in the country with 20-plus steals and 30-plus steals. The latter meanwhile has been a scoring machine averaging 15 points per game over her last five, including 16 in the win over Yale last time out.
When Houston (2-3) and Pacific last faced off, the year was 1982 and Pacific was a member of the now defunct NorPac Conference – Houston won that game 83-74.
Presently, Senior
Elizabeth Elliott's performances have been indicative of the Tigers' success this season, averaging 6.7 made field goals a game in wins. Junior
Lauren Glazier enters the contest as the team's third leading scorer (9.0 ppg) despite coming off the bench and only playing 14 minutes a game. However, she's shooting an efficient .482 on 9.3 field goals attempted per game this season.
