STOCKTON, Calif. – Turning the page to the month of November, the Pacific women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Saint Mary's in the home finale Saturday at Knoles Field.
The Tigers (2-15-1, 0-8 WCC) found a second-half equalizer, but the Gaels (7-6-3, 4-2-2 WCC) responded to ultimately earn the result.
"We were really pleased in how the group played in several phases of the game," co-head coach
J.J. Wozniak said. "Despite giving up a late goal in the first half, we spoke at halftime about how we knew we were going to have chances to get back in the game. We scored a good goal to tie it up early in the second half, but needed to stay on top of the game. We just weren't able to do so. We will rest up, recover and be ready to win on Wednesday night."
Redshirt junior
Ariana Gronauer scored her second goal of the season, collecting a rebound off a cross from freshman
Nia Vela. Vela earned her first collegiate assist on the pass from the right side. Graduate student
Taylor Curtis was credited with the secondary helper, giving the ball to Vela on the sequence.
For a third straight contest, redshirt freshman
Hannah McFarlane set a career-high in saves, totaling eight saves in the effort against the Gaels.
Sophomore
Grace Campos led the Tigers with a pair of shots on goal. Gronauer and sophomore
Ellie Zimmerman also recorded a shot on goal.
The Gaels converted the game's opening goal on a penalty kick in the 36th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Opening the second half, the Tigers knotted the score at 1-1 with Gronauer's equalizer.
In the 63rd minute, Saint Mary's retook the lead and eventually held on for the result.
The Tigers hit the road for its final two contests in the state of Washington, facing Gonzaga at 6 pm on Wednesday.
