STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific women's basketball held Long Beach State to 3-for-28 from the field in the second and third quarters to put together a convincing 81-65 winning effort over Long Beach State on Friday night in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Entering the second quarter, Pacific (2-1) trailed 27-24 after conceding 10-of-17 attempts to the Beach (1-1) in the previous quarter. What followed was a dominant defensive effort from the Tigers in which the team held Long Beach to 2-for-16 from the quarter and an 8:02 drought between Beach field goals and a 4:21 scoring drought period.
In that eight-plus minute span, Pacific scored 13 points to take a three-point lead behind the explosive play of junior
Lauren Glazier. The junior came off the bench to hit four field goals in the quarter to give her 14 points heading into halftime. A three-pointer from sophomore
Nyah Lowery fight before the halftime buzzer put Pacific up 40-34 going into the break.
Out of the break Pacific's defensive intensity continued as LBSU was held without a field goal until the 2:14 mark of the third quarter while conceding just five points in the frame overall. Given the cushion, the Tiger offense threw up 13 more points to expand the lead to 14, again relying on the post to spark the rally.
Senior
Elizabeth Elliott scored seven of her 19 points in the period and Glazier added four more to her ledger. Coupled with a bucket in the fourth quarter and Glazier became the first Tiger with a 20-plus point outing this season. For Glazier, this is the second time in her career she has gone for 20 or more, with the last coming last season against Cal Maritime.
Helping on the defensive end for the Tigers was graduate
Liz Smith, who tied her career-high five steals (last done in 2021 against Jessup).
Senior
Anaya James was an all-around threat for Pacific, turning in a final stat line of 14 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. The double-double is Pacific's first of the season and the sixth of James' career, but just the second time the guard has reached this milestone on points and rebounds (the last coming during the 2022-23 season at San Francisco).
Sophomore
Marina Radocaj drew her first collegiate start in the contest and produced two points, four rebounds, two assists, and a block in her 18:25 minutes of action.
Pacific remains home for its next contest, playing host to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks on Sunday, November 17, at 2 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
