STOCKTON, Calif. – A 13-point deficit was trimmed to just one in the final minute for the Pacific women's basketball program, but Northern Arizona was able to hang on for a 68-63 decision Sunday at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Graduate
Liz Smith drilled a three with 24 seconds left as Pacific (2-2) trailed 64-63, but NAU (3-1) made four free throws in the end to stay on top. Smith finished with 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, marking the first time she eclipsed 20 points since Dec. 8, 2023.
Playing opposite Smith for many stretches was freshman
Daria Nestorov, who tallied seven points. In her 16 minutes of action, she shot 3-for-6 from the field, including 1-for-3 from deep, and dished out six assists and two boards. Each one of those stats are new career highs for the freshman.
Also setting a career high was junior
Sydney Ward with 15 rebounds. She surpassed her previous best of 10 to lead all rebounders in the game. Ward helped the Tigers outrebound NAU 46-38.
Pacific heads out on the road for the next 18 days, as the team will travel to New York to face the Columbia on Wednesday and Yale on Sunday. The Tigers finish out the road swing in New Orleans, taking on Lamar and Houston at the Big Easy Classic on Nov. 29-30.
All four matches can be seen on ESPN+.
