PORTLAND, Ore. – Despite a valiant effort late in the match, the Pacific women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Portland Wednesday night at Merlo Field.
Junior
Alexis Pashales scored a masterful goal in the 70th minute of the match, cutting Pacific's deficit to one at the time. The Tigers (2-10-1, 0-3 WCC) ultimately could not find the equalizer, coming up short to the Pilots (7-3-4, 2-1-1 WCC).
"As we always say, it's a 90 minute game and although our group did some good things throughout, there were some moments that we would love to have back. We were in it until the end, but there is no forgiveness in the WCC so you have to be spot on with the details, minimize mistakes and capitalize when you have big moments to score."
Pashales tallied her fourth goal of the season, tying her for the team lead with freshman
Sierah McCallum. Sophomore
Rina Ogimoto registered two shots on goal, leading the Tigers in that category in which the team totaled five on the evening.
Freshman
Sierra Schwarz played a pivotal role in goal to keep the Tigers within reach all night, totaling seven saves off 24 Portland shot attempts.
Redshirt sophomore
Faylinn Berkowitz and senior
Aly Milford played the complete 90 minutes for Pacific. Milford has played the whole contest in the last four games.
After falling behind 2-0 on goals in the eighth and 46th minute by Portland, the Tigers found some life as Pashales danced along the goal line and snuck in a shot through the goalie.
The Tigers had moments to even the score up later on, but the Pilots put the game away with a goal in the 75th minute, resulting in a 3-1 score.
Pacific looks ahead to returning home and facing No. 15 Pepperdine at 7 pm on Saturday at Knoles Field.
