Broncos Edge Tigers in 2-1 Decision

STOCKTON, Calif. – In front of a lively home crowd, the Pacific men's soccer team battled to a 2-1 defeat to Santa Clara on Saturday at Knoles Field.

The Tigers (2-7-4, 0-4-1 WCC) and Broncos (4-6-3, 1-2-2 WCC) traded scoring chances all night but Santa Clara capitalized late to earn the result.

Freshman Bele Alomerovic scored his second goal of the season in the 19th minute, leveling the score at 1-1. Freshman Zion Vaughn and junior Danny Govea earned the assists on Alomerovic's tally. For Vaughn, it marks two straight contests with a point.

Senior Joshua Moya made his 13th start in goal for Pacific this season, totaling four saves off eight shots by Santa Clara.

Seven Tigers played the full length of the match, featuring Moya, senior Emmanuel Obiefuna, graduate student Javier Chavez, junior Luca Baltzer, junior Jose Maria Barrera, junior Matteo Carbone, and graduate student Ignacio Flores III logging the complete effort.

Both teams competed with high energy and pace with the visitors narrowly out-shooting Pacific, 8-7. The Tigers had five corner kicks compared to none for the Broncos.

Santa Clara opened the scoring in the seventh minute on a free kick to take a 1-0 lead. Pacific responded on a great outlet sequence that led to Alomerovic's second goal at home this year, evening the score up at one goal apiece.

After both teams went back-and-forth with opportunities, the Broncos took advantage of a cross that found Tyler Tipton for a tap-in to give his team a 2-1 lead in the 74th minute.

Pacific applied pressure late, searching for an equalizer, but could not get one in the final 15 minutes to ultimately settle for a 2-1 defeat.

The Tigers return to action next Saturday, hosting No. 8 San Diego at Knoles Field as the conclusion of a busy Nov. 2 of Pacific home events. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
