Tigers Drop Narrow 2-1 Decision on Senior Night

STOCKTON, Calif. - Six players were honored in a pregame ceremony on Senior Night as the Pacific women's soccer program battled to the final whistle, but ultimately fell 2-1 to San Diego on Wednesday at Knoles Field.

The Tigers (2-13-1, 0-6 WCC) commemorated fifth year Laila Saravia, senior Aniela Jensen, graduate student Taylor Curtis, redshirt junior Ariana Gronauer, senior Aly Milford and senior Audrey Fuchs during the festivities before kick-off against the Toreros (3-9-4, 1-5-1 WCC).

"A couple of tough moments against us late in the game was the difference," co-head coach J.J. Wozniak said. "Our collective energy was fantastic all night and our group did a lot of really good things, not what you think when the final score is not in our favor. While we celebrated our seniors tonight, and we thank them for all they have given to our program so far, they know they have more soccer left to play so we will regroup and be ready to compete for 90 minutes on Sunday."

Junior Alexis Pashales scored the game's opening goal in the 57th minute, converting a header on a cross by Curtis into the box that gave the Tigers a jolt of energy early in the second half. Pashales tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season with four of those coming at Knoles Field. Sophomore Grace Campos picked up the secondary assist for her second helper of the season.

Redshirt freshman Hannah McFarlane made her first career start in goal, totaling a season-high six saves off 15 shot attempts by the Toreros. McFarlane stopped a breakaway midway in the first half that led to a scoreless 45 minutes.

After Pashales' ice breaker a dozen minutes into the second half, the Toreros responded with a pair of goals in the 70th and 81st minutes to ultimately earn the result.

The Tigers resume conference action this week, hitting the road to face San Francisco Sunday at 2 pm at Negoesco Stadium.
