Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second Half Comeback Falls Just Short in Narrow Defeat to Oregon State

STOCKTON, Calif. – Trailing by two goals in the second half, the Pacific women's soccer program cut the deficit in half and nearly found the equalizer before dropping a 2-1 decision to Oregon State on Wednesday at Knowles Field.

The Tigers (2-9-1, 0-2 WCC) saw freshman Brianna Norman net her first career goal in the second half against the Beavers (4-6, 2-0 WCC) to highlight the action. It came in the 63rd minute after redshirt junior Ariana Gronauer sent a cross into the box where junior Alexis Pashales passed it to Norman for the finish.

"The result tonight is definitely not indicative of how we played," co-head coach J.J. Wozniak said. But that's soccer and this sport can be cruel from time to time. Our players performed at a high level and played really well throughout the entire match. It's just so unfortunate that two moments against us very early in both halves was the difference in the game. There has been a lot of progress made the last three weeks and our group recognizes this and feels the improvements we have made and that we are playing more true to our Pacific style and identity."

The Tigers took more shot attempts than the Beavers with a 18-16 margin. Norman and graduate student Taylor Curtis each led the Tigers with four shot attempts. Three of the four attempts by Norman were on goal, resulting in a game-high for Pacific.

Freshman Sierra Schwarz earned her sixth straight start in the goal, totaling 10 saves off 12 Beaver shots on target.

Pashales and senior Aly Milford were the only Tigers to compete the full 90 minutes alongside the goalkeeper Schwarz.

Oregon State opened up each half with a goal in the opening minutes of play, scoring the icebreaker in the second minute and another in the 47th minute to hold a 2-0 lead.

Pacific had chances to tie the game up, notably a chip shot by Norman that just went wide. A few corner kicks led to scoring opportunities for Pacific, but the Beavers' defense stood tall in the final moments.

The Tigers look to rebound when they head on the road for their next West Coast Conference game, facing Portland at 7 p.m.   Wednesday.
