VB Preview at Santa Clara/San Francisco

Volleyball Hits Road for Two Matches

STOCKTON, Calif. – Nearing the halfway point of West Coast Conference play, the Pacific volleyball program will look to gain ground in the league's standings when it travels to Santa Clara at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Leavey Center, and San Francisco at 1 p.m. Saturday at The Sobrato Center.

Pacific (12-6, 2-4 WCC) is coming off a 3-0 sweep over Gonzaga on Homecoming. Graduate Alexa Edwards slammed a match-high 18 kills (.438), while graduate Margherita Giani hit for a season-high .636 clip with eight kills on 11 attempts.

The Tigers will be going for the season sweep over Santa Clara (5-10, 1-5 WCC) after winning the first match 3-2 at the Alex G. Spanos Center two weeks ago. Edwards led the offense with 19 kills and a .409 hitting mark as the Tigers improved to 40-15 all-time against the Broncos and have won five consecutive meetings.

Pacific has also been dominant against San Francisco (11-6, 4-1 WCC) with a 36-5 all-time record, including three straight victories. The two have not faced off yet this season.

Edwards is climbing multiple record books at once in the kills category. With 1,689 career kills, Edwards ranks third all-time in school history. She currently leads the WCC in kills with 312 total and 4.33 per set. Edwards is also just 39 kills away from breaking into the top-five of the WCC record book.

Fellow graduate and outside hitter Darina Kumanova served up three aces in the win over Gonzaga last time out and is second in the conference in total aces this season (29) and third in aces per set (0.40 a/s). Her 0.40 aces per set is up 0.11 from last season and only 0.06 per set off her career high 0.46/set, set in 2022.

Senior Jenna Heller ranks seventh all-time in school history in career assists with 3,267. Junior Jayhlin Swain leads the conference in digs with 4.25 per set.

As a team, Pacific ranks first in the WCC in digs (15.47 d/s), fewest aces allowed (0.92 a/s) and fewest kills allowed (11.24 k/s).

Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
