Pacific Finishes Week 2-0 with Win Over Pepperdine

STOCKTON, Calif – Forty-eight hours after earning a road win at San Diego, Pacific women's basketball earned a 72-49 victory against Pepperdine on Saturday at Alex G. Spanos Center.

Graduate student Cecilia Holmberg had another outstanding performance for the second game in a row as she tallied a career-high 21 points. Junior Elizabeth Elliott and senior Kadie Deaton notched 14 points apiece while combining for five steals. Elliott (6-of-6) and teammate Anaya James (4-of-4) were perfect from the free-throw line. Redshirt senior Rosie Schweizer was one board shy of a double-double as she matched her season-high 10 points and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds.

"For the future when we play tougher teams in the conference, we need to obviously play team basketball," Deaton said. "If multiple people are scoring in double figures, they can't just stop one person. So, we have multiple threats."

The Tigers had a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, holding the Waves to just .267 (4-15) from the field while shooting .500 (7-14). The second quarter started with Pepperdine going on a 7-0 run that cut Pacific's lead to five at the 8:38 mark, 20-15. Out of the timeout, freshman Kenlee Durrill found Holmberg on the fast break for the bucket that ignited a 17-4 run. Pacific would take the 37-19 lead at halftime as a result.

The Tigers continued to build on their lead in the second half, shooting .480 (12-25) and limiting the Waves to .323 (10-31), including .177 (3-17) in the fourth quarter.

Pacific was .481 (26-54) overall in shooting while Pepperdine was .306 (19-62). The Tigers matched their season-high 17 made free throws for the fifth time. The Waves were held scoreless at the charity stripe in the first half but were 10-of-15 in the second.

Pacific outscored Pepperdine 44-28 in the paint and had 19 points on the fast break.

"It was a physical game the whole time," head coach Bradley Davis said. "I was pleased with how we performed overall. We wanted to get ball reversal and move that zone. And when they're in player-to-player defense, just make them work a little bit."

Up next, the Tigers host Saint Mary's at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
