Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Odum’s Season-High Not Enough against Santa Clara

STOCKTON, Calif. – Sophomore Moe Odum poured in a season-high 21 points for the Pacific men's basketball program, but Santa Clara finished on top 88-69 Thursday at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Odum was 7-of-12 from the field for the Tigers (6-14, 0-5 WCC) and drilled a pair of threes. It went along with his five rebounds, four assists and just one turnover.

Odum was one of three Tigers to score in double-figures. Senior Judson Martindale registered 14 points, while senior Donovan Williams neared a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Pacific held a 28-26 edge in points in the paint over Santa Clara (13-7, 4-1 WCC). However, the Broncos drilled 15 three-pointers where they shot .385 for the game.

Santa Clara, which tallied non-conference wins over Stanford, Oregon and Washington State, was guided by Johnny O'Neil's 23 points and seven rebounds. Carlos Marshall Jr. and Adama Bal finished with 12 points apiece.

The Broncos got off to a hot start and made five of their first six three-point attempts to grab a 19-11 lead at the 13:37 mark. Santa Clara extended it to 34-22 with 8:09 remaining after hitting its seventh three of the half.

Still down 37-24, a three by senior Nick Blake sparked a 7-0 run as the Tigers trimmed it to 37-31 after a pair of free throws by freshman Tan Yildizoglu with 4:53 to go. However, Santa Clara was able to push its lead back up to 44-33 at the intermission.

After a steal by Blake, a fast break lay-up by Odum had the Tigers trailing 52-42 with 16:26 left.

Though, the Broncos continued to hit the three-point shot and used it to take a 65-48 advantage with 12:36 remaining. A three by freshman Burke Smith and a lay-in by Yildizoglu got it down to 73-62 with 6:58 to go.

It was the only game of the week for the Tigers. They'll return to action next Thursday when they travel to Saint Mary's for an 8 p.m. game. Pacific is in a stretch of four road games in five outings.
