Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tigers Topped by LMU on Road

LOS ANGELES – In the last of a three-game road stretch, the Pacific men's basketball program dropped an 81-64 decision to Loyola Marymount on Saturday at Gersten Pavilion.

Pacific (6-13, 0-4 WCC) was in striking distance for most of the way until LMU (8-9, 1-2 WCC) used an 11-1 run midway through the second half to create separation.

The Tigers committed just six turnovers in the game, which was a season-low. They outscored the Lions 38-34 in the paint and 27-26 off the bench.

Junior Cam Denson turned in a big night with 15 points, which was one shy of his career-high. Senior Donovan Williams reached double-figures with 11 points, and senior Judson Martindale tallied nine points.

LMU was led by Justin Wright who finished with 22 points and nine rebounds. Alex Merkviladze recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Tigers trailed 8-7 early after a three by Martindale. Later trailing 19-14, graduate Greg Outlaw converted an old fashion three-point play to make it a 19-17 game with 7:08 remaining.

A pair of field goals by junior Burke Smith had Pacific trailing 24-21 with 5:10 left. Though, the Lions ended the half strong and hit a three on their final possession to grab a 39-32 edge at the intermission.

A lay-up by Denson at the 15:01 mark kept it at a 47-40 difference. Martindale drained a pair of free throws as Pacific was down 51-44 with 12:28 to go.

The Tigers were still behind 58-48 when LMU went on an 11-1 run to push its lead up to 69-49 with 6:13 remaining. Pacific kept fighting and went on a 7-0 run in the closing minutes which included an and-one by Denson.

Pacific will return home Thursday to host Santa Clara at 7 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The Tigers are 804-445 all-time at home, 341-212 in the Spanos Center and 5-5 this year.
