Volleyball Visits Pepperdine to Start Conference Play

STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific volleyball team travels to Pepperdine to start WCC action at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21. The Tigers moved to 8-4 on the year after going perfect through last weekend's Central Cal Challenge.

The Tigers have a three-match win-streak after downing all three challengers in last week's Central Cal Challenge hosted at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Three Tigers made all-tournament selections, with senior Biamba Kabengele being crowned MVP. Seniors Alexa Edwards and Ramonni Cook also earned recognition.

Kabengele collected 35 kills over the three-day stint, bringing her season total to 154 on the year. She currently leads the team with 3.50 k/s. Edwards follows behind with 134 kills. Both Kabengele and Edwards currently rank among the top-10 in kills within the WCC, coming in second and ninth respectively.

Junior Megan Nishimura puts the Tigers on a strong defensive. Her 50 digs in the Central Cal Challenge led the team through last weekend, bringing her current total to 179 on the season. Her 4.07 digs per set leads both the Tigers and the WCC. Jenna Heller follows with 123 digs on the year, ranking her among the top-10 in the WCC as well.

Pepperdine (4-6) returns home for the first time this month. The Waves have also won their past three straight, most recently sweeping both Washington and Cal Poly 3-0 in the Mustang Invite. The Waves are led by Grace Chillingworth and Birdie Hendrickson, who have combined for 214 kills so far this year. Chillingworth averages 3.43 k/s, while hitting .242, while Hendrickson follows with 2.94 k/s while hitting .223.

The Tigers currently lead the WCC with 13.36 kills per set. Conversely they come in second in opponent's kills, only allowing 10.86 k/s through 44 sets. They rank first across Conference opponents in digs per set, averaging 15.07 through 44 sets.

Pacific has collected 15 wins over Pepperdine dating back to the first meeting in 1978. In 2021, the Tigers upset a ranked Waves team 3-2 at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
