Pacific Comes Back to Tie Utah Valley

Roque tabs the Tigers’ two lone goals

OREM, Utah—Pacific men's soccer team (3-2-3) battled Utah Valley (1-4-2) to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Fifth-year senior Derick Roque had a night as he tallied both goals for the Tigers. The South Gate, Calif. native notched the opening goal off a free kick in the 12th minute.

Michelle Signorell scored for the Wolverines in the 31st minute to make it even going into halftime.

In the 47th minute, sophomore Jose Maria Barrera was called for a red card. Pacific would play on with only 10 players as a result.

Utah Valley took the 2-1 lead in the 66th minute off a goal from Alejandro Silva.

The Wolverines earned a chance to extend its lead on a penalty, but redshirt junior Joshua Moya was there for the stop.

Roque scored the equalizer from the left side of the box in the 76th minute to get the Tigers back in the game. Fifth year senior Samuel Villalta and senior Cory Johnson were credited with the assists.

After being outshot 5-1 during the final 15 minutes, Pacific earned an opportunity to take the win with one minute left after a yellow card was issued to Utah Valley. Sophomore Marco Martinez took the shot from the right side but was saved by Wolverines' goalkeeper Landon Carter.

Pacific was outshot by a 24-13 margin throughout the 90 minutes.

In addition to Roque's two goals, Moya matched his season-high five saves.

"This was not a great team performance tonight and I hope they can learn from this tough lesson about the importance of being detailed and disciplined," said head coach Adam Reeves. "I am proud of some individual performances. In particular Josh, Derick, Avery and Samuel. But as a team, we must expect more from ourselves."

Up next, Pacific wraps up non-conference play as it hosts Houston Christian at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23.
