BARCELONA, Spain – The Pacific women's basketball team played its third and final game of the international tour on Monday evening in one of the oldest basketball gyms in all of Spain. Before the game, the Tigers visited La Sagrada Familia, one of the most impressive churches in the world.
"After some free time, our final game of the trip was against probably our most experienced competition," said Head Coach
Bradley Davis. "And honestly, I thought we played some of our best team basketball. Our new players are already getting comfortable, and while there's still work to do, I was really pleased with our progress throughout the trip. I thought
Cecilia Holmberg found her rhythm today, and our posts really established an inside presence."
The Tigers went back and forth in a close game, battling against an excellent Catalonia Elite team. Several Tigers had big plays as the two teams sought that finishing blow.
Prior to the game, the program traveled to La Sagrada Familia; the tour guides explained to the team the vast history of politics and architecture that has gone into building one of the largest Catholic churches in the world. Despite its massive size, there is still more to add as construction continues today on the church. The church is considered 'one of the most extraordinary personal interpretations of Gothic architecture since the Middle Ages.' The original plans were destroyed in a fire, which has led to the current architects relying on photographs of the plans and modern computer technology to continue work on the monument.
"Today was a full day, but a great day," said Davis. "Our visit to La Sagrada Familia left us all speechless but buzzing at the same time. Our entire group thoroughly enjoyed it."
"This has been an amazing trip. Huge thanks to those who helped get us here and those who came to support us! We so appreciate our Tiger family."
