Pacific Women's Soccer Rallies to Defeat Oregon State, 3-1

First Win Over Pac-12 Foe Since 2012

CORVALLIS, Ore. -  A three-goal flurry late in the second half by the Pacific women's soccer team led the visiting Tigers to a 3-1 win over host Oregon State on Thursday night.

Alexis Pashales scored twice in a span of less than three minutes to spark the come-from-behind win as Pacific raises its record to 3-1-1. The two-goal performance by Pashales follows up a two goal performance by Jaida Nyby on Sunday against UC Santa Barbara. Based on stiatistics available, it is the first time in program history that Pacific has had two-different players score multiple goals in back-to-back games.

The 3-1 win avenges a 1-1 tie from last year on August 28 and the program's first over a Pac 12 foe since a 1-0 win over Oregon on September 7, 2012.

'What a night for our Pacific Tigers! A massive win on the road, in terrible weather conditions against a PAC-12 team that was full of energy from the opening whistle, big congrats to our players fo rhe effort they put in for the full 90 minutes," said an excited co-head coach J.J. Wozniak.

Despite being down 1-0 after surrendering a goal to McKenna Martinez in the 39th minute, Pacific turned up the offensive intensity in the final 45 minutes in the contest against the Beavers. Pacific outshot Oregon State, 11-8 in the second half. The intensity turned into goals when Alexis Pashales scored her third goal of the season the 71st minute to tie the game at 1.

The go-ahead goal came 2:54 later when Anaya Shelton found Pashales, who went to the top center of the goal past the OSU goalkeeper for the 2-1 lead in favor of the visitors. Not to be comfortable with a one-goal lead, Jaida Nyby successfully converted a penalty kick attempt in the 77th minute for a final margin.

With a two-goal lead, the defense kept Oregon State off the scoreboard for the rest of the contest when it blocked a shot in the 79th minute and Tigers' goalkeeper Libby Davy made a save in the 81st minute. Davy finished the contest with eight saves. The eight saves are the most by a Tigers keeper since Brenna Crump had 13 against BYU, last year on October 13.

"As a staff, we are so proud of our group's performance tonight, it was fantastic to see them deal with so much adversity and push through to earn the win. We are going to enjoy this one for sure tonight but the players know the trip is not over and Sunday will be another good match so we will prep accordinly and be ready to go at New Mexico State," said co-head coach Danesha Adams.

Next, Pacific will travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico to face New Mexico State at 1 p.m. (MT)/noon (PST) on Sunday.
