Pacific Women's Soccer Earns Second Win, Knocks Off UC Santa Barbara, 3-1

STOCKTON, Calif – The Pacific women's soccer squad (2-1-1) knocked off UC Santa Barbara (1-1-2) by a 3-1 score Sunday afternoon at Knoles Field. It was the first loss of the year for the Gauchos. UCSB scored the first goal, and the Tigers responded with three straight, including two in the second half.

"This was a great win for our program today," said Co-Head Coaches Danesha Adams and J.J. Wozniak after the match. "Our players stepped up and made the most of an opportunity to bounce back from a tough loss on Thursday.  The difference in the game was that all of our players who played, played fantastic and that is huge no matter the game, but especially in Sunday afternoon contests. We will enjoy this victory and then turn our attention to our two upcoming road matches in the next week."

The win extends the unbeaten streak for the Tigers at home to 13 games (8-0-5), going back to the end of the 2020 season, which was played in the spring of 2021. Pacific is 2-0-1 at home this season.

In this contest, UC Santa Barbara scored first when Manuri Alwis tallied in the 23rd minute. The Tigers nearly responded four minutes later, but had a goal waived off due to an offsides violation.

Pacific put pressure on goal later in the first half and picked up the equalizer in the 31st minute when fifth-year senior Hana Rosenblatt scored her first career goal. The half ended in a 1-1 tie.

Pacific took the lead off its sixth corner kick of the match in the 73rd minute. When the initial effort was turned away, Aneila Jensen served the ball back into the box, and fifth-year senior Jaida Nyby scored from 15-feet out.

Nyby added an insurance score with just 64 seconds remaining in the match to account for the 3-1 final. Nyby now has a team-best four goals on the season to lead the Tigers.

Pacific returns to action Thursday at Oregon State and then travels to New Mexico State for a Sunday match before returning home on Friday, Sept. 8 to host Southern Utah.
