Pacific Women's Soccer Comes Up Short in 2-0 Loss to UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – A goal in each half was just enough to propel host UC Irvine to a 2-0 win over the Pacific women's soccer team on Thursday.

The Tigers (1-1-1) were paced by Taylor Curtis, who record a pair of shots on goal to lead the Pacific attack.

UC Irvine (2-1) got on the board in the 29th minute when the visitors were whistled for a foul inside the box that led to a penalty kick. Tati Fung of UCI successfully converted the attempt for the early lead.

"Not the result we wanted or expected to earn today," said co-head coach Danesha Adams. "With that being said, there wasn''t much that separated the teams throughout the 90 minutes and we did feel good about how some things went for us during the match. Credit to UC Irvine for capitzliing on two of their good chances to get the win. A match like this today, against this opponent on the road, will help in many ways as we move forward in the season."

The Anteaters added an insurance tally in the 63rd minute on a goal by Alyssa Moore, who successfully placed a shot inside the right post. UCI goalkeeper Gio Hinojosa made two saves for the shutout.

Pacific looked to equalize in the early parts of the second half with five shots – on back-to-back shots by Curtis that were saved by Hinojosa and Jaida Nyby had an attempt that was blocked in the 50th minute to keep Pacific off the scoreboard.

"We will continue to put the necessary work in to make sure we are doing all we can to attain the goals we have established for the season and we can't wait to get back on Knoles Field this coming Saturday vs. UC Santa Barbara," said co-head coach J.J. Wozniak.

The Tigers will look to bounce back and resume its winning ways in its next contest on Sunday, August 27 at 1:30 when they host UC Santa Barbara.
