STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team (1-0-1) picked up its first win of the season over Eastern Washington (0-2-0) with a 3-2 victory. The Tiger's 19-game unbeaten streak in non-conference contests continues with the win.
Sophomore
Anaya Shelton and fifth-year seniors
Jaida Nyby and
Lauren Frohan scored for Pacific. Freshman
Faylinn Berkowitz recorded her first career assist.
In goal, freshman
Libby Davy recorded her first career win while adding two saves.
Shelton started the scoring for the Tigers, slotting a shot into the back of the net after receiving Berkowitz's pass and moving to open a shooting lane. However, the Pacific lead was short-lived, as the Eagles responded in the 38th minute to even the score at one.
"I think both teams had a gameplan in the second half and I think we were able to exectue ours a bit better and adapt to what they were doing," said Co-Head Coach
Danesha Adams.
The first ten minutes of the second half were all fireworks; Frohan started the scoring for the Tigers less than a minute after kickoff, corralling a deflection off the keeper, which she buried to put Pacific back up. Eastern Washington responded just a few minutes later, scoring a goal off a corner kick in the 50th minute to bring the game even once again.
Pacific took the lead for good in the 54th minute as junior
Aly Milford was taken down in the box, which led to a Nyby penalty kick which she predictably scored to put Pacific up 3-2.
"It feels really good," said Co-Head Coach
J.J. Wozniak on the win. "We got to enjoy it but then we have to recover and get ready for Thursday. The group is ready to take on the next challenge."
Pacific is on the road for the first time next week, heading to UC Irvine on Thursday, August 24.
