Game Recap: Women's Water Polo | | Alex Leroux

Tigers Fall to Golden Bears

STOCKTON, Calif. – The #12 Pacific women's water polo team (18-7, 3-2) dropped a tough 14-6 loss to the #5 Cal Golden Bears (16-6, 2-1) on Sunday afternoon.

"Cal is a great team. They have a lot of talent, and they're well coached," said Head Coach James Graham. "It was a difficult game for us, but where the frustration lies is that we don't live up to who we are and what we've worked on so much throughout the year. Our ability to adapt this weekend has not been strong; our competitive stamina has been weak, and our championship habits have been inconsistent."

Graduate student Brianna Utas led the goal-scorers for the Tigers with two. Freshman Alicia Petkov, freshman Noemi Alaksza, sophomore Hila Futorian and sophomore Szamira Koppány each found the back of the net once for the Tigers.

Koppány and sophomore Addison McGowan each had a drawn exclusion to give the Tigers an advantage.

Utas had two steals for the Tigers. Futorian, graduate student Lucy Davis, Petkov, McGowan and redshirt senior Clara Vulpisi each stole the ball from the Golden Bears.

The Tigers are back home in Stockton at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 21, to host the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles.

"We have a choice on where we want to go from here," said Graham. 'That choice can take us to great places or end our season. We'll be ready to get back to work, and we will see."
