STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific men's tennis team (5-14, 2-6) defeated the #70 Gonzaga Bulldogs (8-11, 3-5) 4-1 this afternoon after honoring seniors
Coby McCaig and
Manroop Saini.
It is the first ranked win for the Tigers since the 2016-17 season, when the team defeated #43 ranked Portland.
"It is awesome to see the guys fight for one another like that on senior day," said Head Coach
Robin Goodman. "The guys off the court did a brilliant job of getting behind their teammates and controlling the dynamics of the dual match from beginning to end. Truly a special way to finish our last home match in the WCC."
The Tigers entered the doubles competition, ready to win. On court #1, juniors
Peter Alam and
Andre Rodeia defeated the Zags 6-1, putting Pacific up 1-0. After dropping the set on court #3, the match point came down to court #2. Redshirt freshman

Ran Amar put the Tigers on top with a back-and-forth 7-5 victory, securing the doubles point.
It was all Pacific entering the singles competition. On court #1, Alam took his opponent to all three sets but was ultimately defeated. On court #2, Amar defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-1. Saini, competing in his final match at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center, won his singles point 6-4, 6-2 to give Pacific three points and bring the team to the cusp of a senior day win.
On court #4, freshman
Tiago Silva came out on top, winning his singles point 7-6, 6-3, and clinching the win for Pacific.
The Tigers will return on Friday, April 21, to wrap up their spring season against BYU.
