PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pacific women's tennis team (7-10, 2-5) came from behind to stun the Portland Pilots (10-6, 1-5) in a 4-3 battle.
"Great comeback win for our squad today," said Head Coach Mike Erwin. "We got down 0-2 in a pretty hostile environment, and our group responded with our grittiest performance of the season."
"At 3-3, having it come down to our senior captain was a special moment for Danielle and our team. We feel this is something we can build on for the remainder of this season and beyond."
After Portland picked up two doubles wins on Courts #1 and #3, Pacific shifted its energy to singles.
The Tigers dropped the first point, quickly falling into a 0-2 hole. On court #1, senior Klara Kosan got Pacific on the board with a 4-6, 6-1, 3-0 win. Sophomore Tomi Main evened the score on court #3 with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory. On court #4, senior Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle took her opponent to all three sets but ultimately dropped the point. On court #5, sophomore Alexis Sam brought Pacific back into the match with a 3-6, 6-4, 4-6 victory, evening the match score at 3-3. The final point of the contest came down to court #6 with Danielle Zamora. Taking her opponent to all three sets, she came out victorious with a 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 come-from-behind win, putting Pacific on top.
"Coming to Portland knowing there were challenges playing this away match and freshly recovering from a tough loss, our team came ready to fight," said Zamora. "Being the clinching point is my favorite opportunity in our dual matches, and I loved embracing that chance today."
"I hope our girls felt that energy today, and we look forward to bringing that into our final home matches," Zamora added.
The Tigers will wrap up their dual spring season next weekend as they host BYU and San Diego at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
