Pacific Battles Back to Beat Long Island

Bethpage, N.Y.- The Pacific women's tennis team (5-3) concluded its East Coast road trip by defeating Long Island (5-7) by a 4-3 score.

Despite dropping the doubles point, the Tigers battled up to the last singles match to pick up their second win of the trip.

On court #3, sophomore Karina Chao continued to stay hot, picking up her sixth singles win, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-1. Senior Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle picked up the second singles point for Pacific on court #4, defeating her opponent 6-0, 7-5. On court #6, sophomore Alexis Sam defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-2 to put Pacific on top 3-1. After dropping the matches on courts 5 and 2, the point came down to court #1 with senior Klara Kosan. Kosan battled to the third set, coming out victorious against her opponent, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, and securing the contest win for Pacific.

"We challenged our group to come out in singles and compete hard, and they responded," said Head Coach Mike Erwin. "I am especially proud of Klara Kosan, who lost the first set quickly and stormed back to win the second set and then, with the match tied at three-all, she closed out the third set to clinch the victory for us. We are excited to get back to California and start conference play," Erwin said.

The Tigers are back in action next Friday, Mar 24, to open up conference play against San Francisco. The first serve in San Francisco will be at noon.
