Men's Basketball Squares Off at Portland, Hosts San Diego

STOCKTON, Calif. – After splitting last week's conference games, the Pacific men's basketball team will travel to take on Portland at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Chiles Center. The team will return home to end the week, facing off against San Diego at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The Tigers (12-13, 5-5) enter the week in sixth place in the conference standings after splitting two games with Pepperdine and BYU. Five team members scored in double figures for the Tigers in the win over the Waves last Thursday, marking the fourth time the team has had five players reach double figures this season.

Keylan Boone and Nick Blake led the Tigers with 15 points at home against the Waves, lifting them to their first conference sweep since 2020-21. Boone shot 42.9 percent (six-for-14) from the field, while Blake led a bench unit that outscored the Waves 39-10.

Jordan Ivy-Curry recorded his first-ever double-double on the road against BYU last Saturday, scoring 11 points and grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds. After a quiet first half, Ivy-Curry did most of his damage in the second half, leading the team with seven points and eight rebounds in the final 20 minutes of play.

Portland enters the week in a tie for eighth place after dropping three of its last four contests, including a 94-93 double-overtime loss at Pepperdine last Saturday. In a chaotic back-and-forth affair, the Pilots (11-14, 4-7) relinquished a late five-point lead in the final 13 seconds, as the Waves connected on a last-second tip-in to earn the one-point win.

Tyler Robertson leads the team offensively, averaging 15 points per game. Robertson, who scored a career-high 35 points in the loss at Pepperdine, also guides the team with 138 assists.

Moses Wood (14.7 points per game), Kristian Sjolund (12.4 points per game), and Mike Meadows (10.6 points per game) also average double figures for the Pilots.

Pacific leads the all-time series against Portland, 30-14, with the Tigers winning nine of the last 11 contests. The Pilots earned the season sweep last season, defeating the Tigers, 64-56, in Portland on January 27, 2022, and in Stockton with a 75-69 win at the Alex G. Spanos Center on February 24, 2022.

Earning an impressive 87-79 upset win over LMU at home last Saturday, San Diego enters the week in a tie for eighth place. Dismantling the Lions from the jump, the Toreros (11-14, 4-7) had three players reach doubles, with Marcellus Earlington leading the charge with a 30-point performance.

Recording his sixth straight game of at least 20 points, Earlington continues to lead the Toreros in scoring, averaging a career-high 17.5 points per game. Earlington has reached double figures in 21 of the 25 games this season and has scored 30-plus points on three separate occasions.

Three other team members propel the Toreros offensively, with Jase Townsend (15.4 points per game), Eric Williams Jr. (14.5 points per game), and Sigu Sisoho Jawara (11.3 points per game) accumulating 45 percent of the team's offense this season.

The Tigers hold a 15-10 advantage over the Toreros in 25 games since the first-ever meeting in 1979. Earlier this season, the Tigers earned the road victory at the Jenny Craig Pavilion, edging the Toreros 84-82 on January 5.
