ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Pacific men's and women's swim teams wrapped up the final day of the MPSF Championships this evening. The men's team ended in eighth out of eight teams with a score of 179 points, while the women's team ended in seventh out of 10 competing teams with a score of 182.
Junior Caitlin Tan had an exceptional performance in the 200 fly finishing in third place with a time of 2:01.24 to lead all Tigers. Sophomore Noemi Melendez also had a great showing coming in 10th with a time of 2:04.69 in the same event.
"Caitlin's 200 fly time was the second fastest in UOP History!" said Head Coach Katelyne Herrington.
In the 200 back, senior Jessica Clark came in 21st with a time of 2:06.85 and sophomore Jordyn Gonzales was directly behind in 22nd at 2:07.37. Sophomore Paige Sondgeroth finished 22nd in the 100 free with a time of 51.75.
Sondgeroth, sophomore Alexia Ferguson, sophomore Jaydn Phillips and Tan all contributed to the 400 free relay coming in fifth place.
On the men's side, the 200 back had junior Aidan Scott come 13th, junior Alex Kurotori come 16th and senior Richard Lewis come 18th.
In the 100 free, sophomore Mitchell Hopper got 11th with a time of 44.22 and senior Dylan Parente got 13th with 44.33.
Scott, with a time of 1:48.17, placed 13th in the 200 back. Kurotori placed 16th swimming 1:51.28 and senior Richard Lewis placed 18th at 1:41.15 as well.
In the 200 breast, freshman Bridger Sink finished 13th and junior Aidan Vollmar finished 15th with times of 2:02 and 2:02.33, respectively. In the 200 fly, senior Nalex Young came in 18th with a time of 1:53.42.
Parente, Hopper, Kurotori and senior Franklin Fitzpatrick lead the Tigers to a fifth-place finish in the 400 free relay.
Some of the athletes will be back in action one last time at the National Invitational Championships, which take place on Mar. 9-11 in Elkhart, Indiana, at the Beacon Health Aquatic Center.
