ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Pacific men's and women's swim teams had stellar performances on day two of the MPSF Championships. The men's team is currently seventh out of eight teams with a score of 84 points, while the women's team is seventh out of 10 competing teams with a score of 84.
In the 200 free relay, senior Dylan Parente, sophomore Mitchell Hopper, junior Alex Kurotori and senior Franklin Fitzpatrick all contributed to an outstanding fifth-place finish with a time of 1:19.
"Big swim for the guys; we got the NIC cut!" said Head Coach Katelyne Herrington. "Last time we were under 1:20 in that relay was 2017."
Sophomore Paige Sondgeroth, sophomore Alexia Ferguson, freshman Deanna Brazil and junior Caitlin Tan helped propel the Tigers to a seventh-place finish in the same event. This was also worthy of a NIC cut.
In the 200 IM, Sondgeroth and freshman Annelise Thomas both had personal bests finishing in an impressive eighth with a time of 2:04.28 and 14th with a time of 2:05.54, respectively.
"Last year, we didn't have anyone scoring for us in the 200 IM, so having both those girls in scoring positions was huge!" said Herrington.
A couple more standouts tonight came from junior Aidan Scott and Parente. Scott finished 12th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.58, making him only the third guy in Pacific history to break 1:50. Parente swam a time of 20.27 in the 50 free, giving him a 12th-place finish, boosting the Tigers.
Another full day of events picks right back up tomorrow as the swimmers begin competing at 9 a.m. PT/10 a.m. MT. A live stream of the meets can be purchased on a pay-per-view option found at mpsports.org.
