Sophomore Picks Up Wins in Singles and Doubles

Stockton, Calif.- The Pacific women's tennis team (1-2) dropped a hard-fought match against UC Davis (2-5) this afternoon, 4-3.

The Tigers started the day off hot, winning the doubles point. On court #2, sophomores Alexis Sam and Tomi Main picked up the first doubles win with an impressive 6-1 victory. On court #1, senior Klara Kosan and sophomore MiaAngelina Ruja secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win.

"Not the results we were looking for today," said Head Coach Mike Erwin. "I felt good going into singles after winning the doubles point."

Sophomore Karina Chao stayed consistent, picking up the first singles point of court #4, 6-0, 6-2. Ruja had herself a day, also picking up a singles point in a tough comeback win, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Kosan went all three sets, dropping the first 3-6, winning the next 6-2, but dropping the last 3-6. With the match tied 3-3, it all came down to senior Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle on court #5. Clydesdale-Eberle went all three sets but ultimately dropped the match, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6.

"It is early, but our group has to be more gritty in the big moments. I am disappointed but expect our squad to respond when we play at home again next weekend," Erwin said.

The Tigers will remain at home through the weekend, with matches on Friday, Feb. 17, at noon against Tarleton State and a match on Saturday, Feb. 18 at noon against Sacramento State.
