FRESNO, Calif. - Pacific men's basketball (4-7) ended its three game, two-week traveling slate by falling to Fresno State (5-4) 89-56. The Tigers have a week off before hosting UC Davis at home on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Junior forward
Cam Denson led the Tigers with 14 points, shooting 7-11 from the floor. Senior guard
Donovan Williams added nine points off two three pointers and some free throws, while senior forward
Judson Martindale led Pacific with six rebounds.
The Tigers found some life from their bench, which produced 26 points in the effort. Graduate student guard
Greg Outlaw put up seven points coming off the bench, going 2-2 from beyond the arc in the first half. Freshman guard
Tan Yildizoglu produced seven points coming out of halftime. He ended the evening 3-5 from the floor, while leading Pacific with three assists.
Pacific struggled to contain Fresno State through the opening twenty minutes, as the Bulldogs shot 8-15 from beyond the arc and 64 percent from the floor. The Tigers offense couldn't keep up and Pacific soon found itself entering the half with a 19-point deficit.
The second half mimicked the first, as the Bulldogs continued to move in a fiery fashion, while the Tigers' response wasn't enough to diminish them. Fresno State ended the night shooting 64.7 percent from the floor, including 16 made threes. Pacific went 22-58 from the floor, with seven makes from behind the arc.
Pacific buttoned up on turnovers, only committing eight on the night after committing 21 in its previous game. The Tigers led Fresno State with 10 offensive rebounds to the Bulldogs' 5, which helped the Tigers score 12 second chance points to Fresno State's 2. Despite the effort, the Tigers struggled to get shots to fall. Without any answers, Pacific fell by another wide margin on the road.
"A lot of facets of this game, we're struggling offensively, and it's affecting how we're defending. We've got to switch that around," head coach
Leonard Perry shared after the game, "You shouldn't be able to tell if we are up or down defensively when we are tough enough, and we are not tough enough yet. But I believe in these kids. I think they'll get it turned. We are going to keep working, the kids are working hard at practice. If we keep pounding the rock, and putting in the effort at practice, this will turn. This tough time will pass and we'll get through it, we've done it before and we'll do it again."
Pacific returns to action at the Alex G. Spanos Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 as the Tigers host UC Davis.
