Molenaar’s Last Minute Goal Propels Pacific to First Conference Win

SAN DIEGO, Calif.—Fifth-year senior Ryanne Molenaar scored her first goal of the season in the 89th minute to lead Pacific women's soccer (7-6-1, 1-2 WCC) past San Diego (1-10-2, 0-2-1 WCC), 1-0, on Saturday. The Tigers earned their first West Coast Conference win of the season while snapping a four-game losing streak.

"We are so proud of our group as they fought till the last second," said co-head coach J.J. Wozniak.

Pacific was neck-and-neck with San Diego throughout most of the contest. Both teams took 12 shots each with six in the net.

In the 88th minute, Molenaar was called for a foul resulting in a freekick for the Torreros. San Diego kicked the ball towards the right where fifth-year senior Hana Rosenblatt cleared it to freshman Grace Campos in transition. The Redlands, Calif., native found sophomore Anaya Shelton who passed the ball to Molenaar. With a San Diego defender on her, the Yorba Linda, Calif. native kicked the ball from outside the penalty arc and past Torreos goalkeeper Sophine Kevorkian to get the Tigers on the board in the final forty seconds. The goal also marks the ninth in Molenaar's career.

Senior goalkeeper Juliana Alexander notched her second career shutout while collecting a career-high six saves.

"We are hoping this will jump start us in conference as we have a few big games in the coming weeks," said co-head coach Danesha Adams. "Now it's time to rest and prepare for Santa Clara."

Up next, Pacific hosts a rematch with No. 16 Santa Clara for Homecoming at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
