STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific men's soccer (4-3-4, WCC 0-1-1) tied LMU (5-1-5, WCC 1-0-1), 1-1, at Knoles Field on Saturday.
The Lions edged the Tigers with a 6-4 advantage in shots during the 45 minutes. Pacific came back in the second half to outshoot LMU, 12-9.
The Tigers took eight shots in between the pipes throughout the contest while the Lions had seven. Sophomore
Danny Govea and fifth-year seniors
Derick Roque and
Abdullahi Mohamed tallied two shots on goal. Fifth-year seniors
Avery Whipple and
Samuel Saiz Herraiz notched one shot apiece in net.
The Lions would get the scoring started in the 27
th minute with a goal from Ryan Kingsford.
Pacific was able to rally back in the 68
th minute as Roque scored his eighth goal of the season off the assists from Saiz Herraiz and fifth-year senior
Samuel Villalta to even the score at 1-1.
With just two minutes left,
Joshua Moya had to two incredible saves to preserve the tie. The Gilroy, Calif. native registered a season-high six stops overall.
"It becomes almost more difficult when you're down a goal and up a man," said head coach
Adam Reeves. "I'm proud of the effort. It's just execution of the details in the moments that we needed them was not good enough to win the game. I thought we did some good things in the second half that we needed to do. We just need to do it more and that was the game."
Up next, Pacific hosts non-conference opponent California for Homecoming at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
