STOCKTON, Calif.—Pacific men's soccer (4-4-4) fell to California (5-4-3), 2-0, in its Homecoming and Family Weekend contest on Saturday.
The Golden Bears capitalized on their first point in the 38th minute as Giancarlo Mota found Adrian Guzman for the goal.
The Tigers had a chance to tie the game after being awarded a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. Senior
Cory Johnson took the penalty, but it went wide.
In the second half, California extended its lead with a goal from Wisdom Onuoma off the assist from Nonso Adimabua in the 48th minute.
Pacific took 12 shots overall compared to California's 14. The Tigers had four chances in the net while the Golden Bears had five on target. California also had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper
Joshua Moya collected three saves between the pipes.
"I don't think the result justified what the game should have been, especially in the first half," said head coach
Adam Reeves. "We had multiple chances in the first half to go up a goal and we didn't capitalize on those moments. We need to be better in the two final thirds and hopefully, they learn."
Up next, Pacific returns to WCC action as it hosts San Francisco for Military Appreciation and Club Soccer Night at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
