Tigers Host Waves and Lions to Start the New Year

STOCKTON, Calif. – After a three-game road trip, the Pacific women's basketball team (5–9, 0–3) returns home for a two-game slate. The Tigers will host Pepperdine at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, and Loyola Marymount at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7. 

Sophomore Anaya James continues her outstanding season, as she is top two on the team in all major categories: 14.1 points per game (1st), 5.4 rebounds per game (2nd), 67 assists (1st), 19 steals (1st) and 65 shots made (1st). Junior Kadie Deaton has come alive against conference opponents, scoring 11.7 points per game. Sophomore Elizabeth Elliott leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.8 per game. Senior Sam Ashby is the only Tiger to start all 14 games this season, while freshman Sydney Ward and junior Madelene Ennis join her as the only Tigers to appear in every game. 

As a team, Pacific ranks fifth in the conference in points per game and points allowed per game. Junior Liz Smith is third in the conference in three-point percentage at 47.2 percent. James is 10th in scoring and third in assists. 

After the holiday, the Waves hosted #20 Gonzaga and Portland. On Thursday, Dec. 29, Pepperdine dropped 77-63 to the Zags. Ally Stedman led the way with 16 points and collected four rebounds, an assist, and a steal. On Saturday, Dec. 31, the Waves and Pilots battled it out, but Pepperdine could not hold on and dropped 86-76. Pepperdine is on a three-game losing streak after opening conference play with a one-point win over Santa Clara. Stedman leads the team in scoring 16.2 points per game, ranking fifth in the WCC. 

Loyola Marymount has lost the previous two WCC games against the top two teams in the conference, Gonzaga and Portland. Ariel Johnson leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. The Lions have a -13.6 point differential, with the highest point total this season being 71 against Utah State. Pacific has surpassed 71 points six times this season.
