STOCKTON, Calif. – Multiple Tigers set career-highs Saturday afternoon against Portland (14-6, 8-1). Pacific (7-13, 2-7) led early, but a high-scoring second quarter from Portland paced the Pilots to an 81-67 win.
Junior Kadie Deaton set a season-high with 15 points to lead the team. Redshirt junior Rosie Schweizer added 13 points, and junior Madelene Ennis set a career-high with 11 points. Sophomore Elizabeth Elliott led the team with six rebounds and added one block.
Sophomore Anaya James led the team with six assists and a career-high seven steals. James is the first Tiger to reach at least seven steals since Valerie Higgins had eight against BYU in 2020.
The two teams were neck and neck in the first quarter, with both squads making seven field goals and Pacific shooting 50% from the field and 66.7% from three. A buzzer-beater at the end of the quarter gave Portland a 20-18 lead.
In the second quarter, the Pilots scored 28 points on 56.3% shooting and knocked down six threes. The impressive shooting performance saw Portland take a 48-27 lead into the half.
After halftime adjustments, the Tigers outscored the Pilots 20-18 in the third quarter. The Pacific defense was able to limit a potent Portland attack and cut into the lead.
Pacific outscored Portland in the fourth quarter by five points, led by Deaton, who scored six in the quarter. The Tigers limited Portland to just eight attempts in the quarter and forced five turnovers.
Pacific starts the second half of the conference season as it hosts San Diego at 6 p.m. next Thursday, Jan. 26.
